OMG, SO MUCH NEWS FROM LEXICON VALLEY! SERIOUSLY. A LOT.
On September 15, Mike Vuolo and Bob Garfield return with their trademark persiflage. All 13 years of episodes to be released.
Etymology! Grammar! Usage! Moderate Profanity!
Dear Lexicon Valley denizens:
We are going back to the future. On September 15, Lexicon Valley founding cohosts Mike Vuolo and Bob Garfield return to the studio, bringing you new episodes regularly with characteristic charm and erudition.
Columbia University linguist John McWhorter, distinguished solo host since 2016 and now a New York Times columnist, will continue to contribute episodes as his schedule permits. Mike and Bob are less distinguished, to be sure, but they give it their all.
For the first time, the full Lexicon Valley archive will also soon be available at the show’s new website, BooksmartStudios.com, and wherever you listen to podcasts.
Currently, only paid subscribers can access our archives — that will soon change! You’re welcome to remain a free subscriber, of course, though we would love for you to support the show by upgrading to a paid subscription. Paid subscribers have exclusive access to our bonus episodes, including John McWhorter on the nature of Yiddish and Mary McLeod Bethune’s accent. Listen to these and other premium shows now at BooksmartStudios.com.
Look for our first new episode on September 15 — and in the meantime, we’ll follow this post with a long-unavailable show in which Mike Vuolo and Bob Garfield interview Richard Tofel, author of Sound the Trumpet: The Making of John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Address, who discusses the startling authorship behind JFK’s famous words.
We have also joined several new social media platforms, so connect with us on Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram, X and Threads, all @lexiconvalley.
Happy listening,
The Lexicon Valley team

I will very much miss John McWhorter. The OG Bob and Mike were good, but John made the podcast great IMO.
I started listening to the podcast with Mike and Bob, and I’m happy to get them back! Hopefully John will be able to join the two when he can contribute. I’m also excited to get the archives.
